Half Marathon in Two Days, Watch Me Live! [Death by Running]

posted in Running on Apr 29, 2011

As the 11th Annual Memorial Marathon may very well be the first and last marathon I ever run, I decided to go ahead and sign up to become a Runkeeper Elite. This basically means that I might be cooler than you are in this one, tiny niche of the world. That is, unless you also have an Elite subscription, which in that case we should have a party.

So what does this mean? Well, it means the power of the internet makes stalking easy.

Because of my oft-ballyhooed – and mostly self advertised – barefoot half-marathon run, I chose to purchase at least one year’s worth of this Elite business because it allows me the ability to broadcast my run(s) live on a fancy pants Google map. So if you happen to be awake in the wee hours of Sunday morning, you should be able to watch a little icon of myself here. If the icon looks like it is limping and/or stuttering in some awkward way, or possibly going backwards, that’s only because I am blacking out or my heart exploded.

I also want to remind you that I have set up a fundraiser via Crowdrise to help the efforts of the Red Cross in Japan. I realize that we don’t necessarily see Japan on the news every day anymore, but that doesn’t mean what happened is already fixed. I also realize that I can’t guarantee that your donation will go directly to Japan because the Red Cross allocates their donations as needed, but nevertheless, a donation will help someone somewhere. And you would probably be a cooler person if you helped out.

The race proper starts Sunday, May 1 at 6:30am CST. It will be the earliest I have ever woken up on a Sunday, and because the arts festival is also this weekend, it will surely rain torrentially. The arts festival is a bad omen full of dark magic.
