Hey, I am running in this race
posted in Running on Feb 16, 2011In continuing my goal of running around like a silly person, I have just signed up for the YWCA’s 2 Minute 5K, set to commence on April 16. The general event info goes like this:
A woman is sexually assaulted every 2 minutes. Thanks to the YWCA, help is available to heal in the aftermath of this tragedy.
To raise awareness for sexual assault victims and to raise funds for victim assistance programs, the YWCA is hosting the 2 Minute 5K! Join us on Saturday, April 16, at the Regatta Park and Pavilion off the Oklahoma River, located at 725 S. Lincoln Boulevard. Registration starts at 8 and the 2 Minute 5K starts at 9 a.m.Leading up to the race, each participant will have their own personal web pages to help raise money to support YWCA programs to help victims of sexual assault and to help prevention education programs. For more information on YWCA programs to help victims of sexual violence, visit www.ywcaokc.org.
Having working with this organization in the past, I know from experience that it is definitely a good cause to help. To help raise funds, the YWCA sets up donor pages for those involved with their events. If you are so inclined, head over to my page and donate. The donation is tax deductible, if you are curious, so do it up.
As for my personal goals, I would hope to beat my last 5K time (27:56), but that will depend on how well I can adjust to running unshod. I have run three miles recently barefoot, and I totally love it, but my average mileage for that distance is a little slower than what I am used to while wearing Vibrams. I do know that my time will decrease the more I do it, but all I have to go now is work on up.
