About A Fortnight
posted in Books, Games, Pressed & Bound on Nov 5, 2009It’s been roughly two weeks since I’ve last thrown anything up here. That sentence actually sounds a little gross after reading it again. There hasn’t been an incredible amount of exciting news going on around my world. Like normal, I’m pounding away at a new novel. Currently A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin. It’s a hefty tome, and I still have two more in the series after this, but it’s a great curl up and read novel. Does anyone have a fireplace that I can borrow?
On the podcast front, this week marked our 83rd episode, replete with spooky stories and Mario hats. We’re quickly coming up on episode 100, and I have really no idea what to do for it. Hopefully in the next seventeen weeks we’ll somehow end up being rich and famous so we can throw a big party. Cross your fingers. Well, we might throw a big party anyway.
In charity news, Hardmode.org seems to gaining some steam. Fresh out of the gates and less than a month old, we’ve seen right at 400 hits come to the site from all over the country and even overseas. I’m getting more and more excited for the event itself. We need to work on a few things, polish a few things, but I have high hopes for its success. Head on over if you don’t have a clue what I’m talking about.
Lastly, the start of this week marked the beginning of NaNoWriMo, otherwise called National Novel Writing Month. The goal is simple, write a 50,000 word novel in one month. If you do this, you win a prize (not really). You do, however, feel much better about yourself as a human being and get to lord it over you friends. It’s great fun. I had attempted it last year and ended up with a staggering 0 words written. I did sign up for an account with them then, so I consider that a win. This year, however, I’m feeling pretty good about the whole ordeal. I actually just finished writing for the night, and my count sits at 6,701 words, which turns out to be roughly 20 pages of an 5×8″ novel with a HUGE font. I’m not quite sure how the story will turn out, but I’m getting ready to introduce some DRAMA into it. I was saving it for your momma, but it turns out I will unleash it too soon and in mass quantities, like if Cyclops took off his magic Ray-Bans. On the whole it’s actually really quite fun and engaging. The goal here is word count, not quality – if only that could have been the case for papers in college – so you don’t have to really stress about getting it right the first time, you just have to get it down. The only downside I’m seeing with it is that it’s taking all my sweet video game time, and next week marks the launch of a pretty huge game. Oh well, maybe this weekend I’ll man up and write like mad to cover the following week’s online gaming debauchery. Also, if you are feeling up to it, add me as a writing buddy so we can get into a writing pissing contest. It’ll be great fun! My user name at NaNoWriMo is garretble.
Only time shall tell.
