Holy Crap, Backwoods Rules!
posted in Miscellaneous on Oct 9, 2009As you may or may not know, two days ago was my birthday. As you also might be privy to, I own some bitchin’ shoes. These two things may seem totally unrelated, but rest assured that the connection I’m about to bridge between them is one of epic proportions, or, at least, really cool proportions.
It all started a few months ago when I decided I needed a new pair of crazy shoes. I was going on a rafting trip, and my pair of Vibrams didn’t have the little strappy thing, and I needed a pair that had a little strappy thing so they wouldn’t fall off in the water. I had ordered my first pair online and that worked out well enough, but this time I thought that trying a local option might potentially be cheaper and easier. Going with that idea, I headed to an outdoors store that happens to be about two blocks from my house called Backwoods.
Entering the store, I found my way back towards the shoe section. I found what I needed on the wall and made the purchase. Well, I scheduled to make the purchase (they were out of the color I wanted). No big deal, that happens. I was told to come back in a couple of days. (Ironically enough, my brother’s wife was ordering him a pair of the same shoe and color that week as well; they were out all over the state!) I returned to Backwoods a couple of days later to pick up my shoes. While checking out, the person behind the counter asked if I wanted to be put on their birthday list. I said sure, expecting to get a keychain or a coupon or something like that. It was a nice gesture, to be sure, but I didn’t expect much of it.
Fast forward to yesterday, when in the mail I get this letter from Backwoods saying (in paraphrase): “Hey, cool dude! You’re such a cool dude that we’re going to give you this really awesome light travel backpack!” Turns out, that keychain I thought I would get is actually a sweet ass Osprey backpack! Holy crap! A $50 value!
One of the cooler parts of this is that I happened to tweet my excitement over this backpack and swiftly got a reply from the official Backwoods account:
garretble: Just want to let everyone know that Backwoods (an outdoorsy store) rules. On my birthday they sent me a free voucher for a $50 backbpack!

backwooders: @garretble THANKS and Happy Birthday!!
That’s just cool, you have to admit.
I’ve yet to go and pick it up, but I will let you know when I do and take lots of pictures. I’m really excited for this.
